The Charlottesville High School Orchestra's String Ensemble, directed by Laura
Mulligan Thomas, will present Prokofiev's "Peter and the Wolf" on Saturday, January 19.
WVIR-NBC29 meteorologist Clayton Stiver will narrate the classic children's tale. The
concert is designed for children of all ages and will be performed at 3 p.m.at the Martin
Luther King Performing ArtsCenterin Charlottesville. Tickets are $10 for children and
$15 for adults, and are available at Greenberry's, New Dominion Bookshop, Music and
ArtsCenter, from any CHSO member, or at the box office starting at 1 p.m.on the day of
the concert. This show has sold out in previous years; advance purchase is strongly
advised.
Specifically written as a symphonic introduction for children, "Peter and the Wolf" uses a
narrator to present its iconic musical themes and rousing story, and the CHSO is thrilled
to welcome Clayton Stiver in this role. Clayton has been with the NBC29 Weather Team
since October 2006. He comes from Nazareth, PA, and has had a strong passion for
weather ever since the 2nd grade. When he isn't tracking the weather, he enjoys playing
his trombone, skiing, and watching Penn State Football. He is proud to say he was a
member of the Penn State Blue Band and has met legendary film composer John
Williams.
Proceeds from the concert will go toward the award-winning CharlottesvilleHigh School
Orchestra's trip to New York Citythis spring, where they will compete in the
WorldStrides Heritage Festival of Music. Children of all ages are welcome, and there will
be an instrument "petting zoo" following the performance, where little ones can see how
they size up next to a double bass, and get up close and personal with a variety of
instruments and musicians.
