C-VILLE 250TH ANNIVERSARY AND VETERAN'S DAY CELEBRATION

The City of Charlottesville, in partnership with the Celebrate 250 Steering Committee and the American Legion of Central Virginia, announced today that there will be a special civic ceremony in the nTelos Wireless Pavilion beginning at 11:00amon Monday, November 12th.  The ceremony is meant to mark the official founding of the City of Charlottesvillein 1762.  This event is being planned in coordination with the annual Veteran's Day activities traditionally held on this date and will include presentations from our armed forces, remarks from elected officials and special guests.  In addition, members of the city's Sister Cities delegations have been invited and are expected to attend this important event.  Invited guests and speakers include, but are not limited to, Senators Mark Warner and Jim Webb, Congressman Robert Hurt, State Senator Creigh Deeds, Delegate David Toscano, Delegate Rob Bell, the Charlottesville City Council, the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors, and officials from the Universityof Virginia.  The public is encouraged to attend this free event which is expected to last around one hour.  Officials also encourage the participation of area students in the area school systems and home-schooled students as part of their social sciences curriculum.  A twenty-one gun salute will accompany the ceremony and there will be a ceremonial laying of wreaths.  In addition, the Charlottesville High School Chorus and Bands will be performing as part of the festivities.  For more information, contact Ric Barrick at 434-989-9373.
