Oakland School is a small day and boarding school for bright girls and boys ages 6 to 14 with learning differences such as dyslexia, ADHD and processing disorders. The Oakland program offers individualized academic programs that incorporate multi-sensory teaching, daily one-to-one instruction and small class sizes (5:1 student to teacher ratio) to ensure the success of each student. The ungraded curriculum allows students to be placed at their appropriate level in reading and math and progress as quickly as they are able. Students can receive 9th grade credits. In addition to academics, students participate in a wide variety of recreational activities including horseback riding, intramural sports, art, music, community activities, outdoor adventures and cultural weekend outings throughout the area.
All teachers are certified by the Commonwealthof Virginia, 75% have master’s degrees or higher and 75% have special education certifications.
